1 Corinthians 10:13
13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Temptation is normal. We all face it. There is a tendency to think that we must be uniquely weak or strange to struggle with the temptations that we have, but in reality there is nothing new under the sun. That could lead to feelings of defeatism, but what it also means is that the temptation is a known problem with a solution. The second part of verse 13 encourages us that God is loving and faithful, that He wants us to succeed, so He will not allow us to be tempted "beyond your ability". This does not mean that we will always resist the temptation, but that we always "can" resist the temptation, if we so choose. For "with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape" (verse 13). I've been amazed at the number of times that God has provided an interruption when I've been tempted; sometimes I ignore the interruption and go back to the fantasy, but sometimes I use God's help. Or the way out may simply be to flee or go to God or my wife. The point is, if we look for help, God will provide it.
Lord, thank you for providing a way out of temptation.
