1 Corinthians 15:33-34
33 Do not be deceived: Bad company ruins good morals. 34 Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
While correcting the Corinthians beliefs about resurrection, Paul quotes a common saying of the greeks: "Bad company ruins good morals" (verse 33). We should heed this warning, for we will sabotage our recovery if we hang out with people who would encourage us to sin. We are not as strong and independent as we like to think we are, and we are easily influenced by our friends and those we hang out with, s we often compromise our beliefs in order to be accepted. Paul follows this verse by saying, "do not go on sinning" (verse 34). Our desire to stop sinning needs to guide our decisions about the company we keep, and not vice-versa.
God, help me to be wise about my friends, and to make living a pure life a priority.
