1 Corinthians 3:18-20
18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, He catches the wise in their craftiness, 20 and again, The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.
Most of us want to be wise and knowledgeable, but how would we define wisdom? Today's newspaper had an article about the best pickup lines for meeting singles. Is knowing how to hook up with other strangers the wisdom we are after? Being wise to the world, being "hip" or "smart", may impress people, but it is different from godly wisdom. As Paul says, "the wisdom of this world is folly with God" (verse 19). As we progress in recovery we may need to "become a fool" (verse 18) in the eyes of others in order to become "wise" in the eyes of God.
God, I have spent a lot of time trying to be wise in the ways of the world. Help me to be wise in You.
