1 Kings 14:22-24
22 And Judah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins that they committed, more than all that their fathers had done. 23 For they also built for themselves high places and pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree, 24 and there were also male cult prostitutes in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations that the Lord drove out before the people of Israel.
Sex is powerful. It moves our souls and emotions in ways that few other actions can. Unfortunately we have warped what was meant for intimacy between two lovers and used it just as way of accessing intense feelings. Male cult prostitutes were available at idol shrines as a way of achieving an ecstatic feeling (and joining with such a prostitute was a rejection of God and His laws). Shrine prostitutes are no longer common, but the underlying behavior is still common. It happens when we value the "high" more than the person, when we treat sex as just a physical act that feels good.
Lord, forgive me for when I treat others as objects to be used.
