2 Chronicles 32:7-8
7
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed before the king of Assyria and all the horde that is with him, for there are more with us than with him. 8 With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
It is easy to get discouraged in our battle against temptation. The media glorifies lust, people dress for sexual attention, and our friends may scorn acts of purity. In these situations it helps to be reminded of Hezekiah's words: "do not be afraid or dismayed .... with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles" (verses 7-8). Jerusalem was afraid because of the great army besieging them. So Hezekiah reminded them to trust in the Lord who could deliver them, and God responded by defeating the army (verse 21). If we had to fight our battles alone then it would indeed be discouraging, but we are not alone, and God can give us the strength to resist temptation.
Lord, thank you for being a greater power than what is in the world, and for helping to fight my battles.
