2 Corinthians 3:17-18
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Many of these devotions have focused on the theme of discipline and our need for boundaries. But there is also a theme in the Bible of freedom. As verse 17 says, "where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom". This is not talking about the freedom to do whatever we want, but the more meaningful freedom from sin and death. This occurs as we "are being transformed into the same image" (verse 18) which refers to the "glory of the Lord". This is the paradox that our previous life of "freedom of choice" led to a prison, while our new "freedom in Jesus" leads us to freedom to choose life instead of death.
Lord, thank you for the freedom that is found in You.
