2 Corinthians 6:14-18
14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, 18 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty."
Verse 14 says, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers". This verse is typically used to warn about marrying an unbeliever, but it can apply to other relationships as well. The principle is to not mix "righteousness with lawlessness" (verse 14). Yet when we fantasize about a person, do we consider what their spiritual life is like, or are we just thinking about how "hot" they are? Part of the danger of sexual fantasy is that it reduces people to physical objects, and we miss seeing them as spiritual beings. In truth, we also miss seeing ourselves as spiritual beings when we focus solely on the physical. Furthermore, when we claim to be a Christian yet get involved in sin, we are being "unequally yoked" as we are partnering "righteousness with lawlessness". We are "the temple of the living God" (verse 16), so we should "be separate" (verse 17) from idols and sin.
Lord, forgive me for ignoring the spiritual side of life, and help me to be separate from sinful ways.
