2 Samuel 22:26-27
26 “With the merciful you show yourself merciful;
with the blameless man you show yourself blameless;
27 with the purified you deal purely,
and with the crooked you make yourself seem tortuous.
Our sexual behavior obviously affects those around us, but in not so obvious ways it affects our relationship with God. This verse remind us that our actions are connected to how God interacts with us. I find it interesting that God is contrasted as being either pure or tortuous. God being pure refers to His holiness, but also a directness, simplicity, and constancy. In contrast, the crooked will see God as “tortuous”, as someone you cannot figure out, who is wise but not trustworthy. So if we are complaining about our life and how we don't understand why God isn't blessing us, it may be that our own sin is coloring how we view God. Our sin can affect both how we view God and how God deals with us. When we walk in purity, we are able to see God with clearer eyes, and He is able to reveal more of His character to us. When we walk in sin, our vision is clouded with distractions, and God may need to treat us in a way that seems tortuous to humble us.
Lord, help me to be pure, that I might experience Your purity.
