3 John 1:11
11 Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.
In verse 11 John commands us: "do not imitate evil but imitate good". That seems like a logical, reasonable request that we can all agree to. Yet often we do imitate evil rather than good. If we watch a pornographic video and then fantasize about being in the situation, are we not trying to "imitate what is evil"? We idolize celebraties and wish that we could be popular and famous like them, even when their personal lives do not reflect what is good. This verse is a warning to be careful about who we look up to, and who we want to imitate.
Heavenly Father, help me to imitate You.
