Deuteronomy 30:11-14
11 “For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’14 But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.
Do you ever feel like the commands of God are too hard? That living a pure life is just too difficult and unattainable? The Israelites must have felt that way, so Moses confronted this doubt with God's truth. He affirmed that this is not some distant goal that we will never attain, but rather this is near to us, in our heart, and we can do it (verse 14). It is the devil who wants us to give up and stay stuck, but God promises that this is doable, that there is hope. This is one reason why it is good to meet with others who are farther along in the journey of recovery, for they are tangible reminders that there is growth and healing.
Lord, thank you that purity is possible, and help me to persevere in my hope and recovery.
