Ephesians 5:15-20
15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
One of the things we need to realize is the importance of our decisions. In this passage Paul commands us to "Look carefully ... not as unwise but as wise ... making the best use of the time ... do not be foolish, but understand" (verses 15-17). The emphasis is on examining how we live and being wise about our decisions and actions. The wisdom we are to seek is about "what the will of the Lord is" (verse 17). To ignore the Creator of the world and the Giver of our life, is "foolish" (verse 17). Yet that is exactly what we do when we get lost in our sin. How much time do I really invest in learning about God and His will? The more we understand God's will, the more we will be "filled with the Spirit" (verse 18), singing and giving thanks for everything (verse 20).
Lord, I confess to spending more time understanding the things of this world than the things of Your kingdom. Help me to know You and understand Your will.
