Isaiah 40:27-31
27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Recovery is hard work, and sometimes we are tempted to give up. We want quick successes, and recovery is usually a long process. That's why it is good to remember God's power and help. Isaiah addresses this by quoting a common complaint: "My way is hidden from the Lord" (verse 27). This is the complaint of someone who is frustrated because things are not working out the way he thought it should, so he wonders where God is. Isaiah reminds the reader that our all-powerful God, "Creator of the ends of the earth" (verse 28) is still at work. We may not understand what God is doing ("his understanding is unsearchable", verse 28), but God is in control. We may become tired of trying to do right, but God will empower us: "to him who has no might he increases strength" (verse 29).
Lord, thank you for Your help and power.
