Job 31:2-4
2 What would be my portion from God above and my heritage from the Almighty on high? 3 Is not calamity for the unrighteous, and disaster for the workers of iniquity? 4 Does not he see my ways and number all my steps?
After declaring his desire to be pure in verse 1, Job goes on to explain the reason. "What would be my portion" (verse 2) is a transition from the previous verse about why purity is important. The bottom line, undeniable fact is that God sees our ways and judges our actions (verse 4). So often we are in denial of this fact, thinking that we can somehow "get away" with the sin. But God is not fooled, nor is He blind. There are consequences to our actions. This "fear of the Lord" is what keeps Job pure, and is something that will help us if we keep it in our awareness.
God, I confess to often ignoring Your reality; help me to be aware of You and Your desires for me.
