Lamentations 3:19-24
19 Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and the gall! 20 My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me. 21 But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: 22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
Most of Lamentations is about how the people deserve God's punishment. Given our own past history of sin, we can easily remember "my affliction and my wanderings" (verse 19). But this can be carried to the point of despair and hopelessness. Thus the writer reminds us why "I have hope" (verse 21): "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end" (verse 22). We have hope, not because of our own goodness, but because of God's eternal love and faithfulness. God wants the best for us, He wants us to turn to Him and walk in purity, so He will continue to work in us. This is good news, and the source of our hope for healing!
Lord, thank you for Your great faithfulness.
