Luke 11:33-36
33 No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. 34 Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. 35 Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness. 36 If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light.
How careful are we with our eyes? Jesus says in verse 34 that "Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness". We are affected by what we see. If we look at pornography our soul will be full of darkness. But it is not just the blatant pornography that has a corrosive effect; just looking at scantily clad models or suggestive pictures can have a similarly darkening effect over time. In contrast, looking upon God's word and God's work in the world can fill us with light, so we need to not just shun looking at evil, but also seek to look upon the good.
Lord, help me to keep my eyes pure.
