Matthew 13:44-45
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it."
There are two short parables here about the incomparable value of the kingdom of heaven. It is interesting how in both parables he sells "all that he had" to buy the great treasure. In salvation and communion with God we have a great treasure, but are we willing to give away everything in order to attain a relationship with God? It is tempting to want to add God to our existing treasures, rather than replace them with the greatest treasure. Specifically, this may mean giving up our desires for sexual pleasure in order to attain the greater treasure of intimacy with God.
Lord, help me to value You above all else.
