Matthew 7:24-27
24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Jesus here presents a contrast between a wise man who builds upon the rock and a foolish man who builds upon the sand. In both cases they have heard the truth of God, but chose to either follow it or ignore it. God's truth is not something arbitrary designed to stop us from having fun, but is like a building code that protects us by showing us how to build our home correctly. If we don't follow God's building code, we risk losing everything. A life that is filled with secrecy and lust is like a house built on sand. We create these elaborate webs of deceit to try and hold everything in place, but it is startling to see how quickly it all falls apart when a storm hits. Storms are never pleasant, but the person in recovery can handle the storms much better, for they have a foundation upon the rock of God, as opposed to a scaffolding of lies.
Lord, thank you for being my rock and my foundation.
