Matthew 7:7-11
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
When we are tempted to feelings of hopelessness, we need to remember these words of Jesus. "Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you" (verse 7). The good news is that God actually wants to help us. He loves us and wants to bless us. As Jesus says, "if you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!" (verse 11). Most of us believe that God has the power to give good things, but we fear that He doesn't like us and thus is withholding His blessings. These feelings of fearing punishment, of being unworthy of love, can be hidden deep within us. But the amazing thing is that God eally does love us, warts and all, and thus He wants to be a loving Father to us.
Lord, thank you for loving me even when I don't deserve it; thank you for Your abundant blessings.
