Matthew 9:10-13
10 And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 12 But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Do you think of yourself as righteous, or as a sinner? We need to see ourselves as sinners to see our need for God. In fact one inadvertent "blessing" of our sexual sin is that it can strip away our pride and show us our need for God. In response to the Pharisees' complaints about Jesus spending time with sinners, Jesus said "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick" (verse 12). Jesus also said, "For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners" (verse 13). Jesus is the Great Physician, who brings healing to those of us who are sick.
Lord, help me to remember my need for You.
