Micah 6:6-8
6 “With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? 7 Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?” 8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
What does God want? Micah gives us the answer in verse 8: "To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah directs this to a people who had the right intellectual beliefs, but were not behaving in a way consistent with those beliefs. Likewise, we generally know much better than we do. We know sexual immorality is wrong, but we still do it sometimes. But think about how our relationships would change if we did justice with others - no more taking advantage of others for our pleasure. If we loved kindness, then we would place more value on character and less on looks. If we walked humbly with God and others, then we wouldn't be full of egotistical fantasies about how wonderful we are.
Lord, help me to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly.
