Proverbs 27:8
8 Like a bird that strays from its nest is a man who strays from his home.
What happens when a bird strays from its nest? It leaves both itself and the nest unprotected. One way of interpreting this verse is to think of a young bird that strays from the nest and thus away from the protection of its parents. Another way of interpreting this verse is to think of a parent bird who strays and leaves the nest unprotected, thus endangering the little birds. As a father, this is a sobering thought. When we stray we tend to only think of ourselves and what we might "enjoy". But the truth is that we may have a family that depends on us, that looks up to us for protection and guidance. When we stray we are abandoning that responsibility, and thus hurting the ones we love.
Lord, help me to stay with - not stray from - my family.
