Proverbs 3:5-8
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
This is a famous passage, and it has an important message for those of us in recovery. "Trust in the Lord ... and do not lean on your own understanding" (verse 5) reminds us that our self-will is what got us in trouble. Verse 7 warns us to "be not wise in your own eyes". When we tried to figure out everything ourselves and control our little world, we failed, and that often pushed us into the fantasy of our addictions. The antidote is to trust in the Lord, not ourselves, and that process of learning to trust is a key part of our healing. The second part of the saying, "in all your ways acknowledge him" (verse 6) reminds us to be aware of God presence in our lives. God is real, and He is present, wanting relationship with us. As we learn to fellowship with Him, and thank Him for His many blessings, we will be less likely to turn away into sin.
Lord, thank you for always being there. Help me to trust You.
