Psalm 100
1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! 2 Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! 3 Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! 5 For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
In this psalm we are commanded to "make a joyful noise to the Lord" (verse 1), to "serve the Lord with gladness" (verse 2), and to "give thanks to Him" (verse 4). Why? Why do we worship the Lord? For that matter, why do we go through all the hard work of recovery and trying to do His will? The answer can also be found in this psalm of praise. To start with, God is God (verse 3), so there is a greater objective reality than we are currently experiencing. He is the Creator God who made us (verse 3), so He knows what is best for us. We have to admit that we don't know best, that we need to trust His guidance. Furthermore, God is good (verse 5). This is not a mean, capricious God that we follow, but one who loves us and has our best interests at heart. So it makes sense to trust, thank, serve, and praise Him.
Lord, You are God, and you are good. I thank You and bless Your name (verse 4).
