Psalm 118:1-6
1 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! 2 Let Israel say, "His steadfast love endures forever." 3 Let the house of Aaron say, "His steadfast love endures forever." 4 Let those who fear the Lord say, "His steadfast love endures forever." 5 Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free. 6 The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?
This is a psalm of deliverance. The psalmist states: "Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free" (verse 5). This is the hope and good news for us who are in bondage. God hears our prayers, and is with us. Verse 6 declares that "The Lord is on my side"; we are not alone, and we do not need to be afraid. If there was no God, we truly would be hopelessly lost. But there is a God who loves us, so there is hope; we need to cling to these truths when we are feeling overwhelmed. Then we can join the psalmist is declaring "give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for his steadfast love endures forever" (verse 1).
Lord, You are good, Your love endures forever. Thank You for setting me free.
