Psalm 127:1-2
1 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. 2 It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.
Do you want to be healed? Do you want freedom from the addictions and weaknesses that plague you? Sounds good, and the temptation is to then go out and be disciplined and "just do it". But that won't work, at least not long-term, and you'll find yourself striving in vain. We have a history of taking control, of doing things our way, but that's not God's way. God does want us to rebuild our lives, but unless God does the rebuilding, we will "labor in vain" (verse 1). We need to let go of our need for control, and trust God. If we try to force healing, "white-knuckling" our choices, we will just end up frustrated and exhausted.
Lord, I want to be whole and healed. I need You to do this work in me.
