Psalm 55:16-18
16 But I call to God, and the Lord will save me. 17 Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice. 18 He redeems my soul in safety from the battle that I wage, for many are arrayed against me.
Verse 16 sounds so simple ("I call to God and the Lord will save me"), but God will honor this attitude of dependence. In verse 17 David recounts how he cries out in distress to God, and God answers him. The point is not that we should complain and moan, for there are other passages about being thankful rather than complaining. The point here is the relationship. The good thing is that David was talking to God, not just when things were going well or when he was in the temple, but at all times and about all things. The temptation for us is to deal with problems by ourselves, to try and control the situation with our old coping techniques. But that's what gets us into our addictions and into trouble. The healing comes when we can take everything to God, even in our distress, trusting Him for answers. Then He will "redeem" my soul (verse 18).
Help Lord, I need You!
