Psalm 65:3-5
3 When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions. 4 Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple! 5 By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness, O God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas;
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by your sin? I have. The guilt and shame can be so strong as to paralyze us, and cause us to doubt whether there is any hope. If feels as if our sin has "prevailed" (verse 3) and defeated us. But the good news is that there is hope, for God has atoned for our sins (verse 3). Note that the hope is not that we suddenly sinned no more. In fact it has nothing to do with us. The hope is that there is a God who is powerful enough and caring enough to atone for our sins. God is "the hope of all" (verse 5), so our hope and healing rest on Him.
O God our Savior, thank you for the hope You give us.
