Revelation 17:1-2
1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, Come, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who is seated on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and with the wine of whose sexual immorality the dwellers on earth have become drunk.
Verse 2 says of the "great prostitute" (verse 1) that "with the wine of whose sexual immorality the dwellers on earth have become drunk". When we become intoxicated with wine we lose our ability to think clearly. This is what happens to us when we get caught up in lust. We are in a fog, where all we can think about is the object of our lust. In this passage it says that the whole earth (except the chosen saints) were intoxicated, and that could describe our sexualized culture. The media and advertising celebrate partying, sex and immorality. They tell us that we should do whatever feels good. Sounds tempting, but if we look at it soberly, we can see that it is a temporary pleasure that distracts us from following God.
Lord, help me to stay sober, and not get lost in the fog of lust.
