Revelation 21:5-8
5 And he who was seated on the throne said, Behold, I am making all things new. Also he said, Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true. 6 And he said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. 7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.
At the end of time, when all are judged, God promises that "the one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son" (verse 7). But He goes on to say that "the sexually immoral ... their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death" (verse 8). So we have a choice, and there are consequences to our choices. If we "conquer" by faith, then we will be God's son; but if we are stuck in sexual immorality, we will go to hell. That sounds harsh, but there is also good news here of the promise of being God's child. We need to honestly listen to what the text says, "for these words are trustworthy and true" (verse 5). So let's make every effort to trust God and overcome sin by His power, so that we can live with Him forever.
Lord, please help me to win this battle with sin, so that I can spend eternity with You as Your child.
