Romans 12:9
9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.
In verse 9 Paul offers up a simple command that summarizes what we all need to do. To start with, we need to not just try to avoid evil, but actively
work against it. "Abhor" is a strong word, but we need to see evil for what it truly is. At the same time, we need to "hold fast" to the good, and to God. The phrase "hold fast" brings to mind an image of desperately trying to hold on to something, and that is a good image for how we need to desperately hold onto Jesus. Casual passivity about our recovery will not get us anywhere, we need to actively desire it, to cling to it.
Lord, help me to abhor evil and hold fast to You.
