Romans 6:11-12
11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.
Who "reigns" (i.e. is in control) in your life: sin or God? Paul exhorts us to "let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions" (verse 12). This exhortation uses a "therefore", meaning that this conclusion is based on the previous sentence, which says "consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus" (verse 11). If we are truly dead to sin, then sin cannot "reign" in our life. If we are alive to God, then God should be reigning in our life. That is what we declare when we give our lives to Christ, but we need to follow that up with action.
God, I want You to reign in my life. Help me to be dead to sin and alive to You.
