Romans 8:1-4
1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Guilt. Shame. Regrets. These are common feelings for those who have been stuck in sin. But there is good news: "there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (verse 1). No condemnation! What we fear most when we sin is the judgement and condemnation that we expect will follow. There is judgement with God, but there is also mercy, and if we submit to Jesus and live "according to the Spirit" (verse 4), then we will be set "free in Christ Jesus" (verse 2). This is our hope, for although we know we deserve condemnation, by placing ourselves in Jesus care we have hope of acceptance and a new life with God.
God, I know that I deserve condemnation for my sin. Thank you for Your mercy and sacrifice on the cross.
