2 Chronicles 29:1-5
Hezekiah began to reign when he was twenty-five years old, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abijah the daughter of Zechariah. 2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done.3 In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them. 4 He brought in the priests and the Levites and assembled them in the square on the east 5 and said to them, “Hear me, Levites! Now consecrate yourselves, and consecrate the house of the Lord, the God of your fathers, and carry out the filth from the Holy Place.
After a period of rebellion and sin in Judah, Hezekiah ascended to the throne. One of his first acts was to cleanse the temple. We also have been in rebellion, ignoring and angering God when we give ourselves to sexual idols. Like Hezekiah, when we come to our senses and repent, we need to cleanse our temple (our bodies & our homes) of any leftover filth (pornography, memories, etc). We need to ruthlessly remove any reminders or temptations to sin. Hezekiah called the priests to "consecrate", or set apart as sacred, themselves and the temple. Likewise we need to set apart ourselves and our homes, dedicating them to the Lord.
Lord, I confess to bringing sin into my home; forgive me, and help me to cleanse my home and make it a place set apart for You.
