2 Kings 6:15-17
15 When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by our circumstances. Particularly when we are trapped in addictive sin, it is easy to feel hopeless and beyond help. In those cases we can identify with Elisha's servant who was afraid due to being surrounded by enemy soldiers. It all certainly seemed very bleak and hopeless from his perspective. But Elisha was able to see God's perspective, which was quite different. Sure, there was evil all around them, but there was also God's protection and help around them. God's reality is greater than what we can perceive with our physical senses. When life seems hopeless, we need God to open our eyes (verse 17), so that we can see that we are not alone. As long as we have God, there is hope.
Thank you Lord, for your help and protection; help me to see Your reality.
