Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
We've made this point before, but it is worth repeating: we need God's grace. As Paul says in verses 8-9, "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast." We cannot save ourselves or heal our brokenness just by good works. It takes more than just trying harder. It takes God's help. This may seem frustrating, but it also keeps us humble, as it prevents us from boasting about how strong we are. Recognizing and appreciating God's grace in our lives builds both humility and gratitude in us. The result of that grace should then be to "walk" in the "good works" that God prepared us to do (verse 10).
Lord, I am weak, but you are strong. I am incapable of saving myself, but you are my savior. Thank you for Your grace.
