Exodus 10:24-26
24 Then Pharaoh called Moses and said, “Go, serve the Lord; your little ones also may go with you; only let your flocks and your herds remain behind.” 25 But Moses said, “You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God. 26 Our livestock also must go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind, for we must take of them to serve the Lord our God, and we do not know with what we must serve the Lord until we arrive there.”
This is not a passage about sex, but it is about the dangers of compromising our beliefs, which is something we can all relate to. Pharaoh offered Moses a compromise: all the Israelites could go, but they had to leave their animals behind. This had to be tempting; they had a chance to leave town and escape! But compromise, though attractive, can be dangerous. It is tempting to take the easy way out. Our sins usually start out as little compromises, things that don't seem too bad. We think, "as long as I don't have an affair, it's okay to look at Playboy". But once we start down the slippery slope, it is easy to slip and fall. Especially when we are in recovery, we need to be vigilant in setting our boundaries and not accepting halfway compromises. Moses realized that God wanted to bless Israel in all areas of life, so he did not accept Pharaoh's compromise, but declared that no animals were to be left behind.
Lord, I am tempted to sometimes compromise your call to holiness. Help me to stand firm in my commitment and trust that You know what is best.
