Luke 20:45-47
45 And in the hearing of all the people he said to his disciples, 46 Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, 47 who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.
If I'm honest, one of the main reasons I like fantasies is that it feeds my ego. In my fantasies, everyone loves me and wants me. This makes me feel good about myself, which is similar to what happened with the teachers of the law that Jesus condemns in verses 46-47. Their being a teacher was more about the praise they received than about actually caring for the people. It is easy to fall into the same trap sexually, where we care more about what we get than about our spouse. But our spouse, and the people we may fantasize about, are just as important in God's eyes as we are.
Lord, forgive me for my self-centeredness. Help me to truly care for others.
