Proverbs 15:3
3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
The obvious implication of this proverb is that there are no secrets because God sees everything. Even the fantasies in my mind are not hidden from God. This is a sobering thought and something to remember when I am tempted to be secretive about something. But there is another aspect of this as well. The phrase "keeping watch" can refer not only to an all-seeing judge, but also to an alert shepherd. Think about the phrase "keeping watch over his flock". The idea there is one of care as the shepherd is concerned for his sheep and is keeping watch to protect them. So God's omniscience (all-knowing) is used not only to judge us (which should inspire godly fear), but also to care for us (which should inspire godly gratitude). For example, it is because God keeps watch over us that He is able to offer us a way out of temptation (see I Corinthians 10:13).
Lord, thank you for keeping watch over me.
