Proverbs 20:17
Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be full of gravel.
Are you tempted by "forbidden fruit"? Something we know we are not supposed to have, but we want it. We think that we are missing out on something good, and how sweet it will taste if we can have it. This idea applies to both food and sex. It is an old lie that goes all the way back to the garden of Eden, where the serpent suggested that they were missing out on a greater good. Unfortunately, we continue to fall for the lie, and the results are not pretty. We get so engrossed in the fantasy that we ignore the consequences. We fantasize about the sweetness of what we want, "but afterward his mouth will be full of gravel".
Heavenly Father, thank you for Your good gifts. Help me to rest in Your care, and not succumb to the lie of forbidden fruit.
