Proverbs 30:20
20 This is the way of an adulteress: she eats and wipes her mouth and says, "I have done no wrong."
Guilt and shame have gotten a bad reputation in our culture, generally deservedly so. But there is a place for guilt, in that we need to have tender consciences that are aware of our guilt. Otherwise we end up like the adulteress in verse 20 who has no feelings of remorse over her sin, who is so deluded that she doesn't even see the sin. This is a dangerous place to be. So let's pay attention to our guilt and be thankful when they remind us of how we have fallen.
O Lord, I have done wrong. Help me to recognize when I have sinned and not become hard-hearted.
