Psalm 119:133-135
133 Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me. 134 Redeem me from man's oppression, that I may keep your precepts. 135 Make your face shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes.
One of the hallmarks of an addiction is that it controls your behavior. You end up doing things that part of you doesn't really want to do, but you feel like you have to find satisfaction. Thus the psalmist's plea in verse 133 to "let no iniquity get dominion over me" can be seen as a plea to not become addicted. The antidote given is to "steady my steps according to your promise" (verse 133) and to "teach me your statutes" (verse 135). In other words, either follow God's word, or follow sin's rule. That may seem too harsh or simplistic, but that is the bottom line. If we are to resist sin, we must embrace God instead.
Heavenly Father, I confess to sometimes letting sin rule over me. I need You to guide me, and I need to follow the truths in Your word.
